What is a Thigh Lift?

Thigh lift surgery tightens and reshapes the thigh by removing loose skin and fatty tissue. It can help to reduce bulges of the inner or outer thigh and improve overall contour. If you are having trouble achieving the thigh shape you want with exercise or weight loss, a thigh lift may be appropriate for you. In some cases, liposuction alone can sufficiently refine the thigh. However, when there is excess sagging skin, as is often the case with significant weight loss, thigh lift surgery is needed. At Shaddix Plastic Surgery, a variety of techniques are available to customize the treatment to the specific area which bothers you most, whether it be the inner thigh, outer thigh, or both.

Some of the most popular reasons that patients pursue a thigh lift procedure are:

  • Toning, shaping and contouring the thighs
  • Removing sagging skin and fatty tissue
  • Getting rid of excess skin after weight loss

Your Customized Thigh Lift Consultation

During your consultation with Dr. Shaddix, he will discuss what your unique surgical procedure will look like. This includes deciding which type of incision will best suit your goals and anatomy. The most common types of thigh lift incisions are:

  • The Inner Incision, which follows the natural contour where the thigh meets the groin area— it can sometimes require an additional incision down the inside of the thigh
  • The Outer Incision, which follows the path of the Inner Incision but extends around the hip and across the back

Dr. Shaddix will also choose an incision based on the best locations for concealment with clothing or the natural contours of your body. Dr. Shaddix will also thoroughly discuss your recovery and care steps to take during that time so that you understand what to expect.

The Procedure

Dr. Shaddix will take the time to understand your specific concerns and help guide you to the procedure best suited to your needs because every surgery is designed to treat your unique concerns. This surgery is generally performed on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia. After anesthesia is administered, an incision is made to allow Dr. Shaddix to remove loose tissue and redrape the remaining tissue in a higher, more youthful position. Once this is completed, the incisions are closed with absorbable sutures that remain under the skin and do not need to be removed. If liposuction is used as a supplement to any of the above techniques to further refine the result, this can be done without any additional incisions.

Dr. Shaddix and Shelley are great! They are very laid back. Recovery After a Thigh Lift

The recovery period after a thigh lift depends on the extent of your procedure. As with most body procedures, a restful week is advised. Light activity can be done on the day following your surgery. Most patients experience some discomfort after a thigh lift, but this is usually controlled with medications prescribed by Dr. Shaddix. You can generally resume normal activities 2-3 weeks after surgery, though you may be able to return to work before this depending on the nature of your job. Wearing a compression garment will be important during your recovery to help reduce fluid retention and shape your new curves.  You will be given detailed before-and-after surgery instructions, and Dr. Shaddix will always be available to answer any questions you may have along the way.

At Shaddix Plastic Surgery it's a very laid back, low pressure environment where my goal is to educate, and not to sell.”
