Pensacola Tummy Tuck or Abdominoplasty
Over time, our abdomens tend to get stretch. Diet and exercise can go a long way toward losing weight and improving muscle tone, but often, even once you have gotten to the weight you want, you still don't have the shape you desire. Past pregnancies or fluctuations in weight can cause separation of the abdominal muscles and leave loose skin and stretch marks. Unfortunately, all the healthy lifestyle choices in the world won't get rid of the extra skin. And no amount of crunches will bring the muscles back together. If this describes your situation, a tummy tuck at Shaddix Plastic Surgery may be right for you.
A tummy tuck, also known as an abdominoplasty, is a cosmetic surgical procedure that removes excess, loose abdominal skin and stretch marks. Areas of stubborn fatty deposits are also removed and the abdominal muscles are tightened and brought back together. The end result is a flatter, tighter, contoured abdomen.
At Shaddix Plastic Surgery, we offer both the full and mini tummy tuck procedures. Additionlly, Dr. Shaddix frequently works with other surgeons to perform a tummy tuck at the same time as procedures such as hernia repair or hysterectomy. Dr. Shaddix will be able to help guide you as to what is possible during your consultation to help you reach your goal of a beautiful, flat abdomen.
Reasons for Considering an Abdominoplasty in Pensacola

Tummy Tuck Procedure by Pensacola Plastic Surgeon
A tummy tuck is performed under general anesthesia. In most cases, it is done as an outpatient procedure where you can go home the same day as surgery. For a full tummy tuck, Dr. Shaddix will make an incision below the bikini line and extend it to the hip bones. An incision is made around the belly button. The excess skin and fat is then lifted, pulled down, and removed. The muscles are then brought back together in the middle and tightened using a specialized suture to achieve a toned contour in a process called plication. Liposuction can often be added to the procedure to further contour the hips and give a better shape. The incision is then closed with suture that dissolves and does not need to be removed. When only a mini tummy tuck is needed, the differences are that no incision is placed around the belly button and the lower, horizontal incision is generally shorter. In all types of tummy tucks, small drains may be placed to remove excess fluid and keep it from collecting. These are removed approximately five days after surgery
Recovery following a Tummy Tuck in Pensacola
You should plan for at least one week of rest after your tummy tuck before returning to work. You should not return to exercise or strenuous activity for about a month. There is mild discomfort after surgery that is usually well controlled with the medication prescribed by Dr. Shaddix. Immediately after surgery, you will be placed in a abdominal compression binder which you will need to wear for several weeks to a month after surgery. As with all surgery at Shaddix Plastic Surgery, you will be given detailed before and after surgery instructions, and Dr. Shaddix will be available to answer questions and guide you along the way.
