A facelift, also known as a rhytidectomy, provides the ultimate in facial rejuvenation. It is an incredibly powerful procedure that, when done skillfully, sets back the clock to make you look like a naturally younger version of yourself. The procedure is able to address many of the concerns we have over our facial features as we age. A facelift is able to elevate the tissues that have fallen during the aging process. At the same time, the skin is tightened thus smoothing wrinkles and the jawline is improved with correction of jowls. Perhaps most importantly, a well-done facelift completely addresses the aging features of the neck including excess skin and wrinkles, fatty deposits under the chin, and separation of the neck musculature.
We are increasingly seeing younger patients come in to start their battle against the signs of aging early. If you feel younger than your face would have others believe, you may wish to consider facelift surgery at Shaddix Plastic Surgery. Dr. Shaddix's highly specialized technique address both the skin and the underlying muscle tissues of the face to produce dramatic yet very natural results. It is sometimes helpful to bring a picture of yourself from 10-15 years ago to your consultation so Dr. Shaddix can assess you individual aging trajectory. Often, a facelift may be combined with other facial rejuvenation procedures such as brow lift or eyelid surgery. At your consultation, Dr. Shaddix will be able to examine your face and discuss your concerns to decide upon the best plan to help you put your best face forward.

The Facelift Procedure and Mini-Facelift by your Pensacola Plastic Surgeon
Facelift surgery is done under general anesthesia or IV sedation. Some patients may go home the same day while others stay in the hospital for one night. Small incisions are placed around the ear and into the hairline. The skin of the face is elevated off of the underlying tissues. These tissues are then suspended in a higher, more youthful position using special sutures. The skin is then placed back down to cover the newly contoured face. Excess skin is removed to address the laxity that has developed. Care is taken at all times never to give a pulled or windblown look when redraping the skin. The incisions are then closed with small sutures. The scars of a facelift heal to become very thin and virtually imperceptible. In patients where there is separation of the neck musculature or excess fat under the chin, a tiny incision is made in the crease just under the chin to address these issues. As Dr. Shaddix performs your facelift, providing a completely natural look is behind everything he does as ageless beauty is truly a work of art.
Upon occasion, a patient may be a candidate for a mini facelift where the incisions are limited. Less tissue is dissected. The underlying tissue is still resuspended. This is appropriate for patients with only early signs of aging not in need of a dramatic rejuvenation. The recovery period is easier as well.
Recovery following a Facelift in Pensacola
Following your procedure, Dr. Shaddix will wrap your face with a special bandage to limit swelling and reduce the amount of bruising that occurs. This will be removed on the day after surgery. A restful week should be planned after a facelift. Keeping your head elevated will help minimize postoperative swelling and bruising. Very small drains may be placed at the time of surgery. Both of these drains will be removed on the day after surgery. Sutures are typically removed one week after surgery. There is some mild discomfort after a facelift that is easily managed with the medication prescribed to you by Dr. Shaddix. As with all surgery at Shaddix Plastic Surgery, you will given detailed before and after surgery instructions, and Dr. Shaddix will be available to answer questions and guide you along the way.
