Surgery After Weight Loss

in Pensacola, FL

What is Surgery After Weight Loss?

If you have undergone major weight loss by diet, exercise, or bariatric surgery, Dr. Shaddix and staff would like to congratulate you on your decision to become more healthy. Unfortunately, after dramatic weight loss, it is very common to have excess skin, soft tissue laxity, and stretch marks.  After having been stretched, the skin is rarely able to contract to its original state. This laxity can usually be seen on all parts of the body, including the face and neck, breasts, arms and legs, and abdomen. At Shaddix Plastic Surgery, we are able to address your concerns with safety and professionalism and help you truly realize all of the aesthetic benefits of weight loss.

Some of the most popular reasons that patients undergo surgery after weight loss are:

  • Loose skin of the entire body
  • Sagging skin of the face and neck
  • Clothing not fitting right due to excess skin
  • The desire to have a more attractively sculpted and contoured figure

I was so happy with my experience and outcome as well. Dr. Shaddix has a calming manner (which I really needed), is so professional and really listened to what I wanted and the result is amazing and natural looking - very proportionate to my body just as I had hoped. I highly recommend him”

Your Customized Surgery After Weight Loss

Your consultation with Dr. Shaddix will be an in-depth conversation about what expectations you have for this procedure and the specific areas you want to improve. This allows Dr. Shaddix to plan a unique procedure that will benefit you best and also make sure you know what to expect before and after your surgery. This surgical procedure will require incisions, and Dr. Shaddix can discuss your options in order to leave you with scarring that is minimal and allows for the best results.

The Procedure

Every weight loss patient is unique. Some have one or two areas that are troublesome, whereas the issues of skin laxity and excess are global problems for others. This is where Dr. Shaddix’s experience in the field of body contouring will help in creating a plan specific to your needs. There are various procedures available to address each area of concern, and many of these procedures can be combined to provide a dramatic, full-body refinement. In general, the techniques used require an incision in order to gain access to the underlying tissues, which can be lifted or tightened as needed. Then, excess skin can be surgically removed and the rest sutured in a more contoured, tightened position. Plastic surgery after weight loss is normally performed under general anesthesia, and, depending on the number and complexity of procedures, you may be able to go home the same day, or you may need to spend a night in the hospital.

Recovery from Surgery After Weight Loss

Given the many types of procedures of varying complexity, your recovery will be unique. As with any body contouring procedure, you should plan on at least one week of rest afterward. You should have a friend or loved one to help take care of you since you will have limited movement during this time. The discomfort after surgery can be controlled with medications prescribed to you. During your consultation, Dr. Shaddix will provide you with detailed before-and-after surgery instructions and will be available to answer any questions you may have along the way.

At Shaddix Plastic Surgery it's a very laid back, low pressure environment where my goal is to educate, and not to sell.”
