What is Male Breast Reduction?

If you are a man with excess breast tissue, we understand how uncomfortable and psychologically troubling this can be.  Male breast tissue causes a significant impact on your life by chipping away at your confidence.  Feeling insecure in intimate situations or unwilling to take your shirt off at the pool is unpleasant.  Your appearance doesn’t have to limit your activities.  The team at Shaddix Plastic Surgery can help. Feminine-appearing breasts in men may develop for a number of reasons including hormonal imbalances, medication usage, and obesity.  Many times this excess tissue developed in adolescence and never resolved.  Gynecomastia surgery, also known as male breast reduction surgery, is used to remove the excess breast tissue and fatty deposits from the chest to create a distinctly more masculine appearance.  Dr. Shaddix is experienced in treating gynecomastia and can help you to permanently remove your male breast tissue and redefine your chest.

Your Customized Male Breast Reduction

  • Large, female-like breasts

  • Unable to get rid of extra breast tissue with diet and exercise

The Procedure

Gynecomastia surgery is typically performed under general anesthesia, and you will be able to go home the same day.  There are a number of approaches to male breast reduction surgery depending upon the severity of the excess breast tissue.  For many patients, liposuction alone can produce an outstanding result.  For this, very tiny incisions are placed at the periphery of the chest to access the tissue.  For some men, the breast tissue is very dense and cannot be completely addressed with liposuction.  For such cases, a well-hidden incision is made around the edge of a portion of the nipple, and the breast tissue is directly excised.  Afterwards, liposuction is used to blend the excised area with the surrounding tissue and contour the chest.  With these treatments, the overlying skin will generally tighten very nicely and does not need to be excised.  However, in rare but severe cases where there is a great deal of excess and inelastic skin, some of the skin itself may need to be removed.  When you visit with Dr. Shaddix during your private, consultation, he will be able to assess your particular situation and advise you regarding the option that will give you the best and most natural results.

Recovery Following Male Breast Reduction

After male breast reduction surgery, you can normally go back to work within a few days though some men may choose to take a full week off.  For the month after surgery, Dr. Shaddix will ask that you wear a specialized compression garment under your clothes which will help to refine and improve your final result.  You will have some discomfort immediately after surgery, but this is well controlled with the medication prescribed by Dr. Shaddix.  You will be provided with detailed instructions to guide you through your recovery, and Dr. Shaddix will be available to answer any questions you may have along the way.

At Shaddix Plastic Surgery it's a very laid back, low pressure environment where my goal is to educate, and not to sell.”
