Complete Your Summer Body Goals with Liposuction

summer body sculpting

Over the summer, many Pensacola residents have been working toward their body goals. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Kyle Shaddix offers several cosmetic procedures, including liposuction, to help you complete your fitness journey and think ahead to the holiday season.

What is Liposuction?

Liposuction is a popular cosmetic procedure that removes stubborn fat from specific body areas, including the abdomen, hips, thighs, and arms. This procedure is ideal for those with stubborn fat that is resistant to diet and exercise. This minimally invasive procedure only requires a few tiny incisions, through which Dr. Shaddix will remove the excess fat cells using a small cannula with vacuum-like suction. The result is a smoother, firmer, and more balanced silhouette. Liposuction is often combined with other body contouring procedures, including abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) and body lifts. Combination procedures allow Dr. Shaddix to simultaneously address loose skin and excess fat, enhancing the results of your procedure.

Liposuction Benefits

Liposuction sculpts the body by removing stubborn fat from targeted areas like the abdomen, thighs, and arms, enhancing overall body contours. This can lead to increased self-esteem and motivation to maintain a healthy lifestyle, improving patients’ overall health and wellness. Additionally, liposuction is a minimally invasive procedure that leaves little to no visible scarring. Dr. Shaddix also prioritizes natural-looking results so you can show off your new body contours with confidence and no one will know that you had cosmetic surgery.

Liposuction Procedure

The liposuction procedure begins by administering general or local anesthesia, depending on the size of the treatment area, the patient’s health, and their overall surgical goals. Once the anesthesia takes effect, Dr. Shaddix will make small incisions in the designated area(s). Dr. Shaddix specializes in several advanced liposuction techniques, including traditional liposuction and power-assisted liposuction:

Traditional Liposuction

The traditional liposuction technique (tumescent liposuction) uses a saline solution mixed with an anesthetic and a drug to constrict the blood vessels to reduce bleeding. A thin hollow tube called a cannula will be inserted through the incisions into the fat layer beneath the skin. The cannula is moved back and forth to loosen the unwanted fat cells, which are then suctioned out of the body using a surgical vacuum or syringe attached to the cannula.

Power-Assisted Liposuction

Power-assisted liposuction uses a vibrating cannula or ultrasound technology to break up the fat cells for easier removal. This method is often beneficial for large treatment areas or areas where the fat is denser, including the back and chest. Like traditional liposuction, tiny incisions will be made, and a cannula will be inserted under the skin. Once the desired amount of fat has been removed, the incisions will be closed with absorbable sutures and compression garments will be applied to reduce swelling and support the new body contours as they heal.

Is Liposuction Right for You?

Liposuction is a great choice for individuals who are close to their desired weight but struggle with small fat deposits that do not respond to diet and exercise. This procedure is best suited for those with good skin elasticity, as liposuction does not address the skin. Candidates should be in good overall health, non-smokers, and have realistic expectations about the outcomes of the surgery. It’s important to understand that liposuction is not a weight-loss solution or a substitute for healthy lifestyle habits but a cosmetic enhancement to refine and sculpt the body’s silhouette.
