Deciding if It’s Time for Breast Reduction Surgery
Breast reduction surgery can be a life-changing procedure for many people. It can reduce pain, improve your confidence, and enhance your overall well-being. But when is the right time for the surgical procedure? Let’s take an in-depth look at breast reduction and what makes it the right treatment for so many people.
What Is Breast Reduction Surgery
Breast reduction surgery, also known as reduction mammaplasty, is a cosmetic surgery that involves removing fat, excess breast tissue, and skin from the breasts and reshaping and elevating the breasts.to make them smaller and more proportional.
The surgery is done for a variety of reasons, but it’s most often performed to ease discomfort and improve overall appearance and self-confidence.
Why Do People Get Breast Reduction Surgery
Each and every patient we see at Shaddix Plastic Surgery is different and when someone comes in for breast reduction surgery, their reasons for wanting the procedure are just as varied. Some of the most popular reasons why people get breast reduction surgery include:
Improved Confidence
Many women are looking for breast reduction surgery to improve their confidence and how they feel about their body.
Easier to Shop
It can be easier to shop for clothes with smaller breasts. Instead of simply looking for clothes that fit, you’re able to have more variety in your wardrobe after breast reduction surgery.
Ease Pain
Many patients coming in for breast reduction surgery are dealing with back, shoulder, and neck pain due to their breast size. Breast reduction can significantly reduce this pain.
Makes Exercise Easier
Exercise can also be challenging for women with large breasts. They may experience pain or discomfort. With breast reduction surgery, exercise can become easier and more enjoyable.
Less Skin Irritation
Skin irritation in the breast crease can also be an issue for many women with large breasts. By reducing the size of the breast, the skin irritation can clear up as well.
What Does Breast Reduction Surgery Entail
Breast reduction surgery begins with anesthesia being administered to ensure your comfort during the procedure. It’s typically performed under general anesthesia.
Once the anesthesia has kicked in, Dr. Shaddix will make an incision in the breast. He will discuss which type of incision is right for you.
Once the incision is made, the doctor will remove excess breast tissue, skin, and fat. The breast will also be lifted and shaped, and the nipple and areola may be repositioned.
Dr. Shaddix will then close the incision, and either sutures, skin adhesives, and/or surgical tape will be used to bring the skin together.
What to Expect
After surgery, the breasts will be covered in bandages, and you may transition to a sports bra the following day. You will also be prescribed medication for any pain or discomfort and to reduce the risk of an infection. As you will go home the same day, you’ll also need someone to drive you home.
You will have a post-appointment one week, three weeks, and three months after surgery.
You will likely have some swelling and minor bruising for a few weeks to a few months after the breast reduction procedure. These are completely normal and will diminish as you recover. You will want to take at least a week off work and avoid strenuous activities for approximately 3 weeks.
As for results, you may see some immediately, but with the swelling and bruising, the final results won’t show up for a couple of months. You will also have some breast-reduction scars, but those will lighten over time.
Deciding When It’s Time for Breast Reduction Surgery
If you’re struggling with any pain due to the size of your breasts, are having issues with exercise or physical activity, or are simply self-conscious due to your large breasts, there is no better time to have a breast reduction than now. Why suffer any longer? Take back your life.
Dr. Shaddix and his team at Shaddix Plastic Surgery can give you the results you’re looking for and provide you with the relief you deserve. Improve your quality of life and increase your confidence!
