What Is a Mommy Makeover?
A mommy makeover is a customized combination of surgical procedures designed to address the physical changes that pregnancy and nursing can bring. Rather than undergoing multiple separate surgeries at different times, patients have the option to combine compatible procedures into a single operative session, reducing overall recovery time and allowing for a more cohesive result.
Common components of a mommy makeover may include breast augmentation, a breast lift, tummy tuck, and body contouring with liposuction. Some patients also incorporate buttock enhancement through buttock augmentation, while others focus primarily on the abdominal area. Dr. Shaddix evaluates each patient individually to determine which combination of procedures is medically appropriate and aligned with that patient’s goals. There is no single formula: your mommy makeover should be as unique as the changes your body has experienced. All recommendations are made in consultation with your surgeon, and individual results may vary.
Are You a Candidate for a Mommy Makeover?
Ideal candidates for a mommy makeover are women who have completed their family, are in good overall health, and have realistic expectations about what surgery can and cannot achieve. While a mommy makeover may help improve the appearance of loose abdominal skin, separated abdominal muscles, deflated or sagging breasts, and stubborn pockets of fat that have not responded to diet and exercise, it is not a substitute for a healthy lifestyle or a weight-loss program.
Most plastic surgeons recommend waiting until you have finished having children, as future pregnancies can affect surgical results. Patients are also typically advised to be near a stable, healthy weight before proceeding. Breastfeeding mothers are generally counseled to wait several months after weaning before undergoing breast procedures.
The best way to determine whether a mommy makeover is appropriate for you is through a thorough, one-on-one consultation with Dr. Shaddix. He approaches every appointment as an educational conversation, not a sales pitch. You will leave with a clear understanding of your options and the information you need to make a confident decision.
The Mommy Makeover Process at Shaddix Plastic Surgery
Your journey at Shaddix Plastic Surgery begins with a comprehensive consultation. Dr. Shaddix will review your medical history, discuss the changes you have noticed since pregnancy, and listen carefully to your goals. He will explain which procedures may be appropriate, how they would be combined, and what a realistic recovery looks like for your lifestyle.
Mommy makeover procedures are performed under general anesthesia in our on-site surgical facility. Depending on the scope of your procedure, surgery typically takes three to five hours.
Recovery varies based on the combination of procedures performed. Most patients take two to three weeks away from work and normal activity, with a gradual return to light exercise around three to foursix weeks post-operatively. Strenuous activity is typically restricted for six to eight weeks, though Dr. Shaddix will provide personalized guidance at each follow-up visit. Swelling and bruising are normal in the first several weeks, and final results generally become more visible over the course of three to six months as the body heals.
Throughout recovery, the team at Shaddix Plastic Surgery remains accessible and attentive. Patients also have the advantage of Grace + Grey Med Spa next door, which can support ongoing skin health and non-surgical maintenance once healing is complete. Options such as injectables and other non-surgical treatments can complement your surgical results over time.

Results and What to Expect
Patients who undergo a mommy makeover at Shaddix Plastic Surgery typically notice meaningful improvements in their abdominal contour, breast position and volume, and overall body silhouette. Results continue to develop for several months as post-surgical swelling resolves and tissues settle into their final position.
Most patients describe feeling more at ease in their clothing and more comfortable in their own skin. Maintaining a stable weight and a healthy lifestyle can support the longevity of your results. It is important to understand that individual results may vary, and no surgeon can guarantee a specific outcome. A candid conversation with Dr. Shaddix during your consultation will give you the most accurate picture of what you may realistically expect.
Frequently Asked Questions About Mommy Makeover
What procedures are typically included in a mommy makeover?
A mommy makeover most commonly combines breast procedures (such as augmentation or a lift), a tummy tuck, and liposuction for body contouring. The exact combination is tailored to each patient’s anatomy and goals during a personal consultation with Dr. Shaddix. There is no single standard package: your plan is built around you.
How long does recovery from a mommy makeover take?
Most patients require two to three weeks away from work and daily responsibilities, with restrictions on strenuous activity for six to eight weeks. The full healing process, including resolution of swelling, typically takes three to six months. Dr. Shaddix provides individualized recovery guidance at every post-operative visit.
When is it safe to have a mommy makeover after pregnancy?
Most surgeons recommend waiting at least six months after delivery and several months after you have finished breastfeeding. Patients are also advised to be near a stable weight before proceeding. Dr. Shaddix will evaluate your readiness during your consultation and provide personalized recommendations based on your health history.
Will a mommy makeover help with separated abdominal muscles?
A tummy tuck, which is often a component of a mommy makeover, may address diastasis recti, the separation of the abdominal muscles that commonly occurs during pregnancy. During the procedure, the muscles can be repaired and tightened to restore a flatter, firmer abdominal profile. Individual results may vary, and candidacy should be confirmed by your surgeon.
How do I know which procedures are right for me?
The right combination of procedures depends on your individual anatomy, the changes you experienced during pregnancy, and your personal goals. A one-on-one consultation with Dr. Shaddix is the most reliable way to identify which procedures may benefit you. He will walk you through every option in a thorough, no-pressure environment.
Can I combine a mommy makeover with non-surgical treatments?
Yes. Many patients choose to complement their surgical results with non-surgical options over time. The Grace + Grey Med Spa, located adjacent to Shaddix Plastic Surgery, offers a range of treatments including injectables and wellness services such as peptide therapy. Your care team can help you develop a long-term plan that supports and extends your results.
What questions should I ask during my mommy makeover consultation?
Consider asking about the surgeon’s board certifications, the specific procedures being recommended and why, expected recovery timelines, and what realistic outcomes look like for your particular case. You may also want to ask about the facility where surgery will be performed and what follow-up care looks like. Dr. Shaddix welcomes all questions and encourages patients to take as much time as they need to feel fully informed.
